Meet the Staff

 

Erik J. Walton currently holds the position of Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney. His journey in law began with an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, followed by earning his law degree from the Appalachian School of Law. Erik's commitment to justice led him to join the Lee County Commonwealth Attorney’s office as a Deputy prosecutor in 2008, steadily rising to the role of Chief Deputy in 2015. Prior to embarking on his legal career, Erik served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, embodying principles of discipline and service.

Sarah H. Wynn currently serving as a Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney, boasts a rich educational background with a 2002 degree from Virginia Tech and a 2006 law degree from the Florida Coastal School of Law. Prior to her tenure at the Lee County Commonwealth Attorney’s office, Sarah held the position of Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in Wise County from 2007 to 2015. Sarah's legal focus primarily revolves around Juvenile Court cases and those involving child victims or victims of domestic violence, where she demonstrates a dedicated commitment to justice.

Walt Rivers serves as a Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, bringing decades of legal expertise to his role. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Clinch Valley College in 1978, followed by a juris doctorate from William & Mary Law School in 1983. For over three decades, Walt excelled in private practice, focusing on criminal defense. His extensive trial experience includes over 200 cases before juries, encompassing 15 capital murder cases. Renowned for his courtroom prowess, Walt earned recognition as one of the preeminent trial lawyers in the Commonwealth. Transitioning to public service, he joined the Lee County Commonwealth Attorney's Office on April 4, 2022, continuing his commitment to justice within the legal system.

Don Williams, Jr. serves as Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney in a position funded by grants until 2024. Graduating from Clinch Valley College in 1992 and Cumberland School of Law in 1996, Don has honed his expertise in cases concerning firearms and violence.

Martha Elkins is the dedicated Administrative Assistant at the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. A proud graduate of Pennington High School and Mountain Empire Community College, Martha has been an integral part of the office since 2001. With her wealth of experience, she efficiently handles various administrative tasks such as filing certificates of analysis, issuing subpoenas, and organizing body camera footage.

Amanda Christian serves as the Office Manager, bringing with her a wealth of experience and expertise. In 2016, she earned her degree in paralegal studies from Mountain Empire Community College, where she was honored with the Exceptional Graduate Award, recognizing her outstanding achievements in the field. Prior to her current role, Amanda dedicated four years to the Wise County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, showcasing her commitment and proficiency in legal administration.

Summer Wynn, serving as the legal secretary in our office since January 1, 2024, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role. She is a proud alumna of Virginia Tech, having graduated with majors in English and Psychology in 2000, followed by the completion of her Master's Degree in Education in 2002. Prior to her tenure with us, Summer flourished as an elementary school teacher, where her dedication to her students and her commitment to excellence were evident. With her diligent work ethic, exceptional organizational abilities, and superb interpersonal skills, Summer is an invaluable asset to our team.
